i'd really like to start SSRIs again...preferably not zoloft, b/c in conjuction with the Xabex, it makes me way too sleepy.
i was thinking of going on prozac...i hear it is the only SSRI (in general) which doesn't make you gain weight, like many of them do.
i have history with serious bulimia, and i CANNOT gain weight if i dont have to.
HELP PLEASE! does anybody know anythinh about this???

In reply to SSRIs and Weight Gain side effects..., posted by karebear on May 20, 2004, at 2:13:41
Hello,
PLEASE do not take Prozac with the assumption that it doesn't cause weight gain. Myself and MANY other people have gained a great deal of weight from taking it. In my senior year of high school (1997) I was a thin, healthy teenager. By the time I started college that fall I had gained 80 pounds! In the next few years I gained about 40 more and now am 120 pounds from what I started at. I never used to diet or exercise as I was thin and healthy, but since gaining weight I've tried dieting, exercising, everything. None of the weight would come off. When I stopped taking Prozac (gradually) last summer, I was able to take off about 30 pounds but then I went back on it a few months later, and I've gained 40 pounds back. Contrary to what you've heard, Prozac is actually one of the WORST SSRIs as far as weight gain. Please consider a different option if you can.
This is the end of the thread.
