I know this isnt maybe the right message board, but I dont know, it might be psychological, so I'll try it here anyway.
Does anyone in here get this feeling like they're stuck in their skin? Its like you get this irrisistable urge to move you body, or jerk your leg or you back or something. Usually when you're sat doing nothing, watching tv or whatever. I usually make people jump by randomly flinching! It comes and goes, sometimes not a problem at all. It makes you feel like you need to do some exercise or get moving, but it doesnt usually ease up when you do. It comes when your resting, not moving. It just feels like, urgh, your skin is too tight for you or something, I cant explain it!
Does anyone have any idea at all what this might be? It might be similar to restless leg syndrome, but i get it all over, mainly my whole body rather than my limbs. Is it an anxiety thing?
Thanks a lot people xx
(I did ask someone about this in a post earlier, but I decided to do a new post anyway)

What you are describing sounds like akathasia. It is most often brought on by antipsychotics, but SSRI's and Effexor can cause it too. What meds are you on?

I had that feeling while on Effexor XR. I felt like I needed to jump out my skin. Stretching didnt help. I think it was from the (awful & extreme) anxiety the Effexor caused me. It was not the right drug for me. It might for you though. And since your recent dose change, your body may just need to adjust.
Best Wishes,
Cindy

You've described akasthesia very well as another poster pointed out. It is a side effect of some meds and I can tell you, it's happened to me on several of them. Haldol did this to me once to the point of my wanting to end it all rather than experience any more of this horrible weird feeling. Sometimes I have to leave bed because of it, and waking my mate. At the least it is very annoying and at the worst it is searingly, excruciatingly unbearable. Tell your doc and they can sometimes help with another medication like Kemadrin, which is used with Parkinsons Disease (which has movement problems). By the way are you from the UK? One of the words you used made me wonder, it's always interesting to me when I hear it. Stay well.

hi guys, thanks for all your replies to this post! I am on Efexor yeh, but the only problem is (I know this is gonna blow all the theories!) but I had this way before I was actually diagnosed with depression, and if anything, the med has actually made me feel LESS bad. Odd I know!
I appreciate all your comments, and sympathise with all of you who had a bad time with it. Perhaps what I'm experiencing is something different, and I'm just not very good at explaining it!
Yeh I am from the UK watergirl! what was the word you were on about?! I'm intrigued!
xx

I wish I were watergirl--it sounds like a fun identity, lol. It's interesting that your experience is not the akasthesia as a drug side effect. But I wonder if a person can have akasthesia (which has an important ring to it) without a drug? I bet it is possible--most conditions that drugs can cause as a side effect can occur for natural reasons too. But don't trust me, I'm no expert on this. As for the UK--well, it seems to be a UK speech pattern, for some regions anyway, to say "I was sat there", when the US would almost always (I think!) say, "I was sitting there". It seems British, and regional, because not everyone from the UK says it that way. Also, saying "Uni" for university. A lot of people in the US say school, even for university, or college--and not meaning the UK kind of college, as in 6th form. I love these little differences, there are so many of them too. :)

Could be a side-effect of the med you are taking, most likely. What do you take?
