Trileptal only at night???

Posted by Katie2004 on July 12, 2004, at 7:03:35

I am on prozac 20 mg a day, and just starting trileptal after trying other mood stabalizers. These all make me very tired and I can only take them before bed. Since the half life of trileptal is only around 12 hrs or so, what happens if I only take it at night? I notice a difference on only a very small dosage of any stabilizer, so would not go higher than 300 mg or so at night. Would there be enough in my system the second twleve hours to be stable, or would I go into mania or something? Any help is appreciated.

Why not take 1/2 at night , 1/2 in the morning?
See how you feel.
Best Wishes,
Cindy

you should really split the dose of trileptal up. The side effects go away in a week anyways-usually less if you are experienced with it.

it's best to keep regular with a stabilizer because I think you might find your mood fluctuating if you have periods of calm mixed with periods without calm and the antimanic effects produced by trilpetal.

Honestly however, I have skipped morning doses if I had little sleep and were afraid it would hinder me too much to make it through a day. The antidote to that though is to get proper sleep. Trileptal itself though has never made me sleep more than normal, but it does dampen my energy a little bit.
