Has anyone had absolutely NO or minimal withdrawals going off of Effexor?
Also, does anyone else have problems with caffeine while on Effexor, or just in general? Before taking Effexor, I would get panic attacks after one or two cups of caffeinated tea. When on Effexor, I had the worst longest panic attack after I had one cup of caffeinated tea. I didn't have breakfast that morning, so that probably had alot to do with it. But still, caffeine has a marijuana effect on me!
BTW, I am formerly "sobstory". Changed my name again to a happier one. Demeter was the "Happy Goddess"! I tried Artemis, who is my favourite, but that name is already registered on this board, although I have never seen it. Dang.
Cheers,
D.

Caffeine with Effexor gives me really bad hand tremors.

I drink a great deal of caffeine with no problem. I take 150mg Effexor a day. Guess I'm lucky as I couldn't do without my coffee!! My pdoc said yesterday that Effexor is not addictive and that one does not suffer withdrawal but that there is a discontinuation syndrome. If that is the case, there are many folk who have a really severe discontinuation syndrome! She also told me to prepare to be on Effexor for life, so guess I don't have to worry about ever withdrawing!

Sabrina

Hello - I like the more upbeat name!
I did have withdrawal symptoms when I cut down from 300mg to 150mg Effexor. It was "unpleasant".
I am now still on 150mg and all the withdrawal symptoms have passed.
I also drink lots and lots of caffeine. Soft drinks, coffee, tea - the whole nine yards. I've never had a problem combining the two.
Smiles,
Charm

I had no withdrawal symptoms when I stopped Effexor cold-turkey. In fact, I've never had withdrawal symptoms stopping any of the gazillion meds I've tried. I didn't even have withdrawal symptoms when I stopped my long-term 1/2 bottle of vodka per night habit cold-turkey! But this isn't bragging by a long-shot. The down-side is that my "weird" (that's what my Pdoc calls it) neurochemistry has made it extremely difficult treating my atypical depression. My drug reactions, non-reactions and side-effects don't make any sense. The trial-and-error aspect of prescribing is a real guessing game for my doc and me. But we won't give up!

My only symptoms withdrawing from Effexor were the brain zaps. That happened no matter how slowly I tapered. Other than that, nothing. Maybe a little more anxiety than usual, but I figure that is because I am anxious anyway - the Effexor treated that. At least it used to.
