for those of you who helped-just to let you know

Posted by justplainflakey on September 23, 2004, at 2:32:15

Hi, just to let you know, I passed on trying moban instead of zyprexa, at least for now. Problem is that I feel ok and there is a lot going on in my life right now. My thyroid (T4) tested low but because my TSH was in normal limits my doctor insisted that it was normal for me and optednot to treat it. My pdoc suggested that I consider trying the zyprexa-prozac combo but I declined as my experience with prozac in the past was not positive. My zyprexa-abilify combo works good for my mood and thoughts. I'm considering trying 2.5 zyprexa instead of the 5 that I'm on now. Anyway thanks for your support on this matter.

Hi jpf,

The things that affected me the most about being hypothroid were arthritis & cold intolerance. If you have any hypothyroid symptoms besides mental ones, than I would get a second opinion.

Cheers,
Paul.

Thanks Paul, I do hve extreme cold intolerance, sluggishisness, edema, severe constipation, and very pale skin with dark eye circles. Maybe you didn't want to quite know all of that, but because of this I have been thinking that a second opinion might help also. Thanks for supporting that idea. I've been thinking that maybe the first step would be to take my lab results to my pdoc in a few weeks for my routine appt.

You can say whatever you want here provided you say it nicely as you have done. :) If you are a female of child bearing age thyroid problems can cause your period to be irratic or nonexsistant(amenorrhea)

Cheers,
Paul.

Thanks, since I began my research of the topic I ahve become aware of that, and as I have become very irrigular over the past year, (my ob-gyn sid part of menopause, as it may well be). What I found to be alarming about hypothyroidism is that I read long term effect could include congestive heart failure.
Anyway, I plan to look into things further, but it will again take a couple of weeks.
I should mention that about 4 years ago my previous doctor prescribed syntroid for me and it made me nervous so I quit taking it and didn't persue the situation further. But now I feel worse and I guess that there are alternatives.

I take 300mcg/day of synthroid & have only one problem, it's making me too hot coming into spring here & I am going to ask my endocrinologist if I can lower it a little for summer.

Cheers,
Paul.

I'd like to sincerely say how lucky you are to be going into spring, but i'm so tired I'm looking forward to winter. Your coments have helped a lot. I'm even giving thought to trying an appt with an endrocrinoligist about the matter. I'll post how things go, all the best,
jpf.
