Lexapro side-effects one year later

Posted by tgspinner on September 28, 2004, at 21:27:39

I have been on lexapro for the last 18 months and strattera as well. I stopped strattera 3 months ago and have been stepping down lexapro. i am on 5mg and am stopping it completely today. i have been experiencing some of the side-effects over the last 3 months: weight gain and sexual side-effects. does this make sense? no side-effects and now i do?

I suppose the Strattera could have been countering some of the Lexapro side effects, as it is a norepinephine reuptake inhibitor. My experience is that those types of drugs do tend to reduce appetite, at least. It's possible it could have had some benefits sexually, as well.

I figured that that could be possible, but it seemed odd since my diet has not changed and lifestyle (I am a spin instructor). Just in case, I just went to an endocrinologist to rule anything else out. I am starting to feel like a hypo, running to one Dr. trying to fix the side-effects from another Dr.'s treatment....

Sexual problems can be caused by depression and also by antidepressants so it's hard to figure things out.

I agree with King Vulcan that your previous combination of Lexapro and Strattera may have been good for sexual function.

Has your depression returned? If it has, or if it does in the next few weeks, you may want to consider going back on both drugs at your previous dosages.

If your depression stays under control however, just give it some time and there is a good chance that the sexual side effects will subside.
