I was in here reading some old posts about Topamax and side effects. I've been on Topamax for about 6 months for chronic migraine and tension headaches. After the first 6 weeks I revisited the doc and told him I was getting a terribly itch restless feeling whenever I tried to sleep or simply sit still. I also had tingling in my hands and feet. He asks me if I'm having panic attacks!!! He has no idea about the tingling and says I have Restless Leg Syndrome. Now I take Clonazapam at night to sleep.
Is this guy an idiot or are the side effects of Topamax so varied that he wouldn't know about ... oh ... my HAIR FALLING OUT!!! Other people seem to have the same side effects as me, so should I see this guy again or what???

Hi
Sounds like you had almost the same experience that I had mith my dr.I was on Depakote and my hair was falling out in huge clumps in the shower.I told him this and he said " Oh that could be a side effect of any med you are on". Yeah????? Then take me off one at a time. I like my hair. ya know?
Since I already have a hard time getting out of the house to go grocery shopping or ANYTHING else, having no hair would give me no option but to stay home. Not that I'm vain, but I am a 32yr old woman who would like to keep her hair as long as possible.
Unfortunately for you, A common side effect of Topomax IS the tingling in hands and feet. I was never on this med, but in doin some research this was found to be true. However, if you are not on any other med, (whch you probably should be, these meds work best when you are on a few diffent ones. (each for a different cause). Tell your dr.next time you go that you want to be taken off Topomax! It is your body and if it is not helping you, ther's nor reason to be on it. If your hair is falling out and T is the only med you take, Hmmmm yup, that would be it.
And by the way "YES, I do feel sometimes that dr's have no idea" Especially my therapist. But we won't EVEN get into that one now.
This is the end of the thread.
