I am prescribed Xanax XR 2mg once daily. I take it at 7AM before I leave for work, but feel as if it begins wearing off mid-afternoon, and is completely gone by dinner time. Is this accurate? How long should it last? Thanks

When prescribed Xanax XR for the first time, my doctor was aware of this and prescribed me 1mg twice daily. I actually doubted him at first because it is suppose to be a "once daily" med, but that is more marketing than anything. If you look at the prescribing information, it says the half life is 12 hours so that's how my doc prescribed it. I took one 1mg tablet at 7:00am and another at 7:00pm and it worked great. It was a little more expensive that way but it works much better, no ups and downs.
