Hi...
I'm going from effexor to cymbalta now. I'm on 75 effexor and 30 cymbalta (4 days). I'm coming off 150 effexor. I'm curious to know how people making this switch have fared. I'm noticing a daytime grogginess. Also, I had no sexual difficulties on Effexor, so I am hoping they won't crop up on Cymbalta. I'd love to hear reports on this, too.
Many thanks!!

I have not tried either drug, but I know that they are both very popular with a lot of success stories.
Why are you switching? I guess if you do develop sexual side effects with Cymbalta, you can always go back on Effexor.

From a depression standpoint, I hate to switch. Effexor's been great. But I have chronic pain issues I've been dealing with for the last 3 years... The tricyclics help, but not enough. My pain doc thinks Cymbalta is worth a try.

That's true. Cymbalta has been shown to help with pain.
I think that your doc has the right idea. Cymbalta affects both serotonin and norepinephrine and therefore might help your depression just as much as Effexor, but with more pain relief.
If for some reason the Cymbalta does not turn out to help as much as Effexor, you might want to discuss with your doc about returning to Effexor and adding Strattera to try to deal with the pain.

Thanks for responding. Straterra is on my list after this if Cymbalta doesn't work. I'm also hopeful about Lyrica (pregabalin) down the road. It's not approved here yet. Neurontin helped my pain but I couldn't deal with the side effects--even as low as 500. The sedation diminished but I got an intractable headache. Not a common side effect. Go figure.
