I'm 17, i'm taking Klonopin .5mg which is not helping at all with panic attacks.
Anxiety is hard to explain, one minute im calm and i dont need any medicaiton, the next im a raving maniac killing my self to get things done.
I have alot of resposibility right now about getting to collage and its getting to my head.
Now, i know Xanax is completely not even an option, since its for my age, and hello, its a big abused drug, so thats cut.
My mon is very controlling the sessions, and it is hard for me to get to the bottem line to my pdoc about my problems.
If you would like to get an idea, read my above posts, aboutm my dad calling me nothing and a failure.
Would it be reasonable to just ask, can we consider adding lorazepam to the current treatment?
I need your help badly, my mom has inflicted dissociative disorders, and my inability to cope with stress, it gets the point where sort of a whole numbness and i dont recognize reality.
Please put your input, it will help me some, at least you are someone supportive of me in my life.
Good Day

Hi Matt,
I'm glad you're back!
I think it would be perfectly reasonable to ask for Ativan instead of Klonopin. Just tell your pdoc that you've been having some side effects from the Klonopin and that you'd like to try a different anti-anxiety med instead.
>My mon is very controlling the sessions, and it is hard for me to get to the bottem line to my pdoc about my problems.
I think you should ask to speak to your pdoc alone. It seems unfair that your mom is preventing you from talking about the things that you want to discuss.
Good Day Matt!

Hi!
He's not dependent yet JACJ!!
If alternatives are effective, long-term use of benzodiazepines is best avoided... but if nothing else works.... using a benzo long term isn't necessarily such a bad thing..... unless, that is, you don't want to run the risk of becoming dependent.
If I knew a drug that would make me well I'd be happy to be dependent on it- unfortunately I've never found such a drug. Benzos are not the answer for me, and they certainly weren't the answer for you, but they are the answer for some people. Whether Matt will be helped or harmed by his benzo I cannot predict. Anyway, I'm not the prescriber :-)

Hey, just wanted to say Ativan may be a better option for you at your age. Or even xanax. I took xanax for several years and switched to klonopin and for me luckly its been a savior. But ativan was too weak for me and I started getting a tolerance to xanax after so long. But i have panic disorder and social phobia so I have to take meds on a daily basis and Im fine with that and as long as my doc or yours lets you take them - go for it. Life can suck if your anxious all the time..

I thought you were coming off of a benzo. You could be already building up a tolerance to the benzo even at that dose and even if you have been on it a few weeks. Benzos should not be used for more than a few weeks.
I am so sorry you are suffering. I suffer from anxiety terribly but my anxiety has decreased ten fold since coming off the drugs. I still have my days but the drugs were causing most of my symptoms. What else have you tried?

Do Klonopin and Ativan have similar properties, like is Ativan more sedating, or more noticable.
I need to know to find an effective treatment.
