Any Pro-Social Meds?

Posted by TheOutsider on January 11, 2005, at 16:49:56

High everyone

My social anxiety is really getting me down at the moment.
I used to have it under control with GHB, but I can no longer obtain it.
Now I take Klonopin as needed.

The problem is that although Klonopin takes away the anxiety it leaves me feeling appathetic and with no desire to socialise.

I was wondering what meds, or combination of meds have made people function better socialy.
Has anyone found Nardil Prosocial?

Perhapse I need a combination of antidepressent and antianxiety meds?

Supposedly Nardil and Parnate are the best AD's for social anxiety in that order so that's a good place to start. And whatever is good for social anxiety would be prosocial in that regard.

Basically anything that works on GABA or dopamine. Since you're already taking a GABA drug perhaps you're lacking in dopamine.

Some people find stimulants prosocial, like caffeine, adderall, and dexedrine. That may be an option as well. They work on dopamine. I personally find Adderall too anxiety provoking where as caffeine works great. YMMV.

When i'm on nardil i feel like a different person-no depression/lonliness, but i still felt anxious. When i combined nardil with klonopin i felt like i was in a daze and didn't care about socializing with anyone. Currently I'm taking nardil with xanax xr and this combo seems to work much better for me...although most people who post here will tell you to try Klonopin first. Other meds you may want to ask your pdoc about are the antipsychotics and the anticonvulsants. Antipsychotics stop the constant stream of anxious thoughts in your head, while anticonvulsants seem to augment antidepressants very well. Geodon and lamictal are two meds you may want to ask about. Keep experimenting and sooner or later you'll find the right combo.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone

Unfortunatly stimulents alone don't help my SA,

Caffein makes it worse, so does Provigil, Dexedrine was somewhat prosocial in combination with Clomipramine, oddly enough neither were effective on their own.

I tried combining Klonopin with Provigil, but I didn't find it very helpful, although it seems to work for lots of others :(

I would like to try Xanax but its all but impossible to get it prescribed here, especially long term.

I'm pinning my hopes (such as they are) on either Nardil or Pregabalin!

Pro-social drugs

1. Nardil - EXTREMELY EFFECTIVE
2. Xanax - very very effect
3. Tramadol- very effective
4. Amisulpride (lower dose range)- very effective
5. Zyprexa- worth a try
6. Stelazine -- worth a try
7. Psychotherapy (i.e CBT etc) -- very ineffective (in my opinion)

Annoyingly neither Tramadol or Amisulpride helped me!
I think GABA disfunction must be involved with my SA some how, because only GABA drugs seem to help........

Can anyone speculate what it is about Zyprexa that makes it prosocial? As opposed to, say, Geodon ?

I can't speculate on the specifics of why the two meds are different, but my pdoc told me Zyprexa calms down the emotional centers of the brain very quickly and effectively, while Geodon is more effective at controlling the antisocial thoughts that go through your head.

I found that Nardil was the most pro-social med I have taken...

I have also found that the combination of Neurontin and Klonopin had a strong pro-social effect.

Sadly, moderate amounts of alcohol works the best for me...but only for short term "confidence"

Now, I take parnate, and .5mg of klonopin, the effect is very similar to Nardil, but with far fewer side-effects.

Reboxetine helped me with motivation, energy and social anxiety. I dont recommend use of ths drug if u consider yourself unstable. Efexor is an anti depressant and anti anxiety medication.

I don't know. Geodon has been much more prosocial than zyprexa for me.

Pro-social drugs

Haven't tried it.

> 2. Xanax - very very effect

I second that.

> 3. Tramadol- very effective

Tramadol is the most pro-social drug I've ever used except combo of Adderall + GHB.

> 4. Amisulpride (lower dose range)- very effective

Yes, but it pooped out on me after 2/3 months
