I have been on Effexor XR for about 3 years at 150mg in the mornings. Had some stress so went up to 225mg. Noticed side effects dry skin, lost 15 pounds and lost sex drive. The bad effects were jitters and nervous stomach and mild tremors in hands. I like the lack of OCD thought attacks with the higher dose but the nervousness has to stop. I use a fourth of 1 mg. of Lorazepam to knock out the jitters. I am thinking on going back down to 150mg. Any Suggestions?

I've found that adding beta blockers helps with tremors and nervousness without the narcotic effect of benzos. some examples are inderal (propranolol), and toprol

Google effexor. There is an ongoing Thread about this med. Someone on that Thread will surely be able to answer your questions. It's the longest Thread on PBabble. Hope this helps. Fondly, Phillipa

Have you had your thyroid function checked recently? I know that some of the side effects you mentioned can be associated w/ thyroid probs Anxiety and depression can be associated with thyroid probs too. It is just a simple blood test that your MD can order. Worth checking out.
Best,
EE

Had my Thyroid checked in July all is well. Had a cat scan done last month and a brain was found but nothing else. Any body out there using Effexor XR and suffer from FREE FLOATING ANXIETY DISORDER? I was diagnosed with OCD. Boy am I lucky. Now they said all I have to do is change the way I think and all will be great. At 49 it sure is hard to change what comes up in my unconsiouness
