I know anxiety symptoms can be quite individual, but I have a question if anyone else experiences this one.
During times of extreme stress, my anxiety seems to fire a shot across the bow, so to speak, prior to going into a really horrible phase. This is fortunate for me and I can generally take steps to thwart a real crisis – usually.
My strange symptom is a startle type response as I’m falling asleep or as I’m waking. This is different from a sleep paralysis feeling, which I have experienced also. This feels akin to a mini panic attack. It’s very short-lived lasting 15 – 30 seconds but can cluster when in the in between sleep and wake state. It’s very unsettling as anxiety symptoms are… Klonopin helps this but it takes a while to get into my system after a period off. So, I struggle with them for several days even if things go well once the K kicks in.
I guess it would just be nice to know someone else knows of what I speak and can tell me they have had this weird experience also.
Anybody?

>Yes, I have had those little uncomfortable sizzles in high stress times even though I am on Zanax daily.
I have also started with the mini-zaps, but have worked up to almost seizure-type shaking, shivering and jerking from too much serotonin. It is a variation of the norm.
Hope this helps you. up 'n' down

Thank you both for your input.
I do believe my K is kicking in, as the last two nights have been better with not having “THEM”. I do believe they are the warning of an anxiety state to come and they are part of my anxiety “profile”. Controlling these first symptoms seems to be paramount for me not to spiral into a toxic anxiety situation. This continues to be a learning experience for me. One I did not desire but must accept.
I first experienced them years ago, long before I was on head meds, after the death of someone close to me and during a grieving time. I did not treat them then and maybe should have - in hindsight.
While they have a physical feel to them, I don’t actually have any physical movements with them -–at least not as they currently are experienced.
Toxic anxiety is one weird, strange animal. Depression is a monster, no doubt, but my real monster is anxiety.

I have been off SSRIs for about 9 months and have just recently been having the return of the "mini-zaps" and some tingling in the face ( all, anxiety related)... Can this happen? Don't really want to go back on meds.... Thanks for any advice.

>I don't really know an answer for you but I do know my anxiety symptoms are some of the weirdest experiences ever. I am fortunate that my meds work well for me with a minimal amount of grief. Lexapro has been really good and I have an uneasy peace with the fact I use Klonopin fairly routinely also. Right now, I can live with the routine use of meds for control and better quality of life than I can live with the symptoms of anxiety and it's impact on my functioning. It's a tough decision and not the path I wanted for myself but it's reality is undeniable.
I hope you work your difficulties out...
