Is there somebody having success on 15mg-30mg maintenance dosage daily with Nardil? -I saw very variable dosages after reading past posts.

> sdbHi. My pdoc who is very familiar with using MAOIs said that some people can start of with a high dose for a week and then drop to low maintenance dose. He mentioned 15- 30 mg. Unfortunately I wasn't able to tolerate Nardil and I use Parnate. But I think it has and can work.

Hi Maxime,
I think your pdoc may be right. If i start with 15gm daily i would have to wait a long time before noticing any effect (Because of constant new synthesis of MAO)
I am not sure but there was somebody taking 15mg daily in the p-babble forum.

If i start with 15 <mg> daily...sorry always this typing mistakes. I dont know what would happen to me starting with 15gm :-)

I can't seem to get below 45 mg, unfortunately. And even 45 mg is not enough right now. I had hoped to be able to go lower for maintenance.

A problem for me is availability and its pricy. Phenelzine is not available in my country thus i have this <not controlled> substance to import. Not covered by insurance. Instead of phenelzine we have moclobemide which has failed in many studies against sad, panic, depression etc.
Phenelzine seems to be a good drug but I am aware of risks for bp persons. I am even not sure if I will start a trial at all. But what I have learnt is that drugs can affect persons always very differently; it remains to be apart from pharmacology knowledge some sort of alchemie. I like the p-forum because it can give me some hopefully true statistics. When I am in hospital I am sure nearly >60% patients (difficult to say but many) are not telling the truth about their medications.kind regards

Hi sdb,
From what I've read and nine years experience with Nardil, the level of MAO inhibition that makes you well is the level to use to keep you well. I'm currently on high dosage, 105mg. I'm a large man and needed 90mg of Nardil to relieve my social anxiety and atypical depression. I have tried reducing my dosage down to 75mg and 60mg but the symptoms always return. I wish I could get by on 30mg. That would be great.
