You need to keep taking the meds for a few weeks for the tiredness to wear off. After 4 years I can take a similar med at a high dosage with no sedation. Also it helps to take the meds at bedtime.
Do you have schizophrenia or a different diagnosis? If you have schizophrenia you will likely need to take the meds for a really long time to prevent relapses. Do you have other symptoms besides hearing voices?
I hear voices when unwell, too, and take Geodon and Seroquel for that. They work extremely well on my voices. I recommend that you give the drugs a good trial of several weeks. For most people with schizophrenia these kinds of drugs work pretty well (I think 70% are helped a lot). Good luck.

Isn't Abilfy a good drug for this also? Fondly, Phillipa

I take Abilify 20mg in the morning. I'm also supposed to take Seroquel 100mg at night as needed, but it makes me so tired, even if I split the pills, that I don't often take it. Abilify seems to work ok for me. At least it's not doing anything bad for me. I'd be interested in hearing other opinions. I feel like I'm on a pretty high dose, but then, I'm not on a "proper" mood stabilizer besides it, unless you count TOpamax, which I take 300mg of. I used to take LIthium and the other hard-core mood stabilizers, but I don't anymore. ANyway, i think Seroquel is a good med if you can get past the tiredness. I took it for awhile when I wasn't working or going to school or doing anything that I needed to be up for in the morning, and it helped calm me down and smooth out my moods without causing many side effects or causing weight gain like some of the other antipsychotics.

let me tell you of the story. in 2002 i took phentermine and paxil. the weight dr told me it was ok to take with paxil. well they didnt work together i started hearing voices telling me to break my son neck. of course i did not do it. i went to mhmr and they put me on 50mg of zoloft. that helped with the voices for about 2 years. so about 8 months ago the voices came back and he upped the dose to 100mg but that made things worse. so i went to a psychiatrist and he put me on effexor xr-75 mg and risperdal 1 mg. my blood pressure went up with effexor and risperal i started hearing things. well i went to another dr and he put me on lexapro and seroquel. on the lexapro i would still hear those voices. so i was scared to take the seroquel. i started it last night and it made me real tired. but so far i have not heard the voices and i feel better. but i also have social anxiety so what is a good med for me. the voices told me to hurt only my youngest son not my other two. they live with my mom and i am able to control the voices. but it hurts me so bad that i hear those dam devil voices. i love my son so much. can someone recommend any other meds i should take.

Gee I hate to say this but it sounds like schizphrenia. How old are you that's a key. It usually hits a person in late teens early twenties. Sometimes Bipolar can be mistaken for this as it causes psychosis. I think a new evaluation with a new pdoc is in order for you ASAP! Fondly, Phillipa
