I have taken effexor xr for about 3 months. 75 mg a day and have gained 12 pounds. Has anyone else had this problem? Does it go away when medication is stopped?

Most pyschotropic meds carry the risk of weight gain. All SSRI's and SNRI's have this listed as a side effect. If Effexors working for you, despite the 12 lbs, I'd be happy! When I was on Paxil, my appetite went through the roof and I gained roughly 10 pounds over 3 years time, but I was feeling great. I'd get on a weight/cardio program just to keep your weight level. Weight gain is inevitable with the meds. It's a small price to pay for happiness :)

I'd say it depends where your wt is now. If you are obese it could be a bad thing. If underwt a good thing. But CKl is right how you feel is very important. I wouldn't stop a med if I felt good. Fondly,Phillipa
