I am getting desperate

Posted by wildcard on October 8, 2005, at 19:01:49

I don't know where to turn?! I take 225 Effexor XR and 300 Wellbutrin XL, a prenatal vitamin w/ an iron supplement and am still fatigued?? Blood tests have been done but nothing yet and this is not me. I can hardly get out of bed and when I do, not for long. Any suggestions??

I'll give you some of my anxiety. How's that? And maybe you're catching up on your sleep? Fondly, Phillipa

Provigil. It worked wonders for me. Gives you more energy with no side effects (for me).

Effexor can make some people very tired. Did the tiredness start after starting the Effexor?

Marsha

Hey Marsha~I had been on the Effexor for quite some time before the extreme fatigue set in but i was taking 150 and not 225...I wonder if i drop back on my Effexor I will see an improvement?. If i remember correctly, the fatigue started shortly after he upped my Effexor to 225mg...hhmmmm. Thank you Marsha, that completely skipped my mind as a possibility.

Do you drink caffeine regularly? This may not seem very relevant but some people simply cannot tolerate it at all. Doctors overlook it, and so do many patients, but I find that if I drink caffeine just 'once a day' I become so slowed down it resembles chronic fatigue syndrome.

And the other thing of course is cannibis. Im in no way suggesting that you are a user, but you'd be surprised how many people dont see the link with that niether.

Hope you get some relief soon.

Hi Wildcard,
People here are going to think I'm a broken record, but one of the symptoms of atypical depression is extended sleep.

Atypical depression was recently validated by a twin study. The patient should have two out of four of:

1. Increased appetite with weight gain of 10 lb or more when depressed
2. Hypersomnia of 10 hours or more per day or 2 hours more sleep than usual amount of sleep when not depressed
3. Heavy, leaden feelings in arms and legs
4. Longstanding pattern of interpersonal rejection sensitivity, not limited to episodes of depression, that results in significant social or occupational impairment

MAOIs are the medication of choice for treatment resistant atypical depression and social anxiety.

May the force be with you,
Jedi

Thanks for the input but i usually have no caffiene at all during the day. I only started to have some b/c i felt so tired but it didn't help. I don't smoke either so ??? While waiting for blood results, the only thing i can think is to cut back my Effexor to 150mg again. Thx again

I had severe fatigue and in my case it was caused by multiple hormone deficiencies. Doctors are trained to assume a physical cause, and if your fatigue is severe this is in my opinion the right thing to do. Usually there will be other symptoms besides fatigue as a disease progresses. Sometimes it takes months or years to sort out.

>Thx for the input. I have narrowed the fatigue down to two sources 1)The higher dosage Effexor OR 2)The Ortho Evra Patch. I was reading up on the patch and a rare but possible s/e is severe fatigue and it fits the time frame perfectly?! I will see my gyn doc tomorrow and get off the patch and see if things improve. I sure hope so. I slept 18 of 24 hours Sunday and no one understands that i *feel* that exhausted...
