i was taking abilify but i started having akathesia i think was because my legs kept being restless and my sugar was going up. so he decided to take me off. the psyc doc is still trying to find out if my dx is psychotic depression or bipolar 2. it is very hard to distinguish because i have been on zoloft, effexor xr, lexapro, seroquel, risperdal, abilify, and ive had bad side effects from those. so he wants to keep me on celexa 10 and the klonopin .5 twice a day for depression and anxiety. but i have racing thoughts of hurting my son but i am aware of that i and i will never hurt him. he lives with my parents. im thinking these are racing thoughts and not hallucinations or hearing voices to hurt him. so he wants to add trileptal 150mg. what does everyone think. could this be ocd, psychotic depression, or bipolar 2. he said its not schizophrinia.

I don't have any experience w/ that med, but I just wanted to wish you well. I also wanted to say that the diagnosis is not as important as treating the symptoms. Unfortunately, in psychiatry, just because you know the "right" name for something doesn't mean that there is a clear drug choice. So, as long as your pdoc understands your symptoms and experiences s/he should be able to make some good choices about meds.

Also, my advice would be to make sure that you are able to see your pdoc very frequently while you are searching for the right med. That way s/he can have a better sense of what is working or not working and s/he can change things quickly if you are having probs. You may need to stand up for yourself a bit here--sadly most folks don't seem to be able to get in to see their pdoc as much as they need to.

Also, do you have a therapist? This is so stressful and scary for you and it would be great to have some IRL support.

Best,
EE

Trileptal might help. Some people just have awful responses to antipsychotics, even the newest ones. A mood stabilizer could make your thoughts more manageable. Trileptal doesn't require blood tests or anything, and I haven't heard of any extreme side effects so..its really just a matter of seeing if it helps. If it doesn't, there are many, many other approaches your doc can consider.
