Anyone Having Sinus Problems On Effexor?

Posted by Fenway5150 on February 3, 2006, at 17:36:00

I'm not sure if it's a sinus infection I had shortly before going on Effexor but I'm now done with all the anti-biotics, the doctor says I have no more infection yet I have sinus pressure, pressure around my eyes and a cough and It's making me feel like crap. I'm not feeling 100 percent. My pharmacist says Effexor won't effect the sinuses but this seems strange. It's been going on for a month now! Crazy.

Anyone ever have sinus problems on Effexor?

I've noticed that most ADs make my nose stopped up. And when I started Cymbalta my head felt like it had a lot of pressure in it. It didn't hurt, it just felt full and muzzy. And my ears rang.

But you could just be having residual effects from the sinus infection. Even though the infection is gone, the tissues are probably still inflamed and swollen. I'd give it some time.

I have been on Effexor for several years and I have never had this problem, I really dont think the effexor is causing this.

O.K. Thanks so much for responding. You folks probably know, though, when you start on a new med you wonder what's happening at all times!

I think I'm also feeling the early effects of Effexor 'cuz my head feels thick and there's a little pressure on top of my head. I've been on it for about three weeks so I'm assuming that should subside soon.

Thanks again for your help!

P.S. For those who speak out against these kinds of medication, I have GAD and spent the first 27 years of my life being a nervous wreck all the time, it started to effect everything in my life. I got off Paxil after six years to see if I'd be alright and quickly remembered how bad it gets. I'll take the side effects any day over living like that again. To each his/her own.

My sinuses were so dry while I was on Effexor that I had to start using a saline spray on a regular basis. On the really bad days, I used Afrin to help with the congestion. I am currently off SSRIs and SNRIs and take only a benzo and a TCA and I don't use the spray more than a couple of times a week when it gets really dry in my house.

GOOD LUCK!

Interesting. O.K. Maybe that's what's going on. I'll use the saline spray 'cuz I don't want to get off Effexor, it really is doing a great job with my Generalized Anxiety Disorder. Then again, it could be my sinus infection. I'll give it a few more weeks.
