Hey,
My pdoc and I just decided to add tegretol to my regime of lithium and seroquel.... He was kinda leaning towards trileptal... But i decided on tegretol because it seems like a more a powerful option... im wondering if i made a mistake??? has anyone tried both and can compare the two?
thanx

I took both trileptal and tegretol. Tegretol had a fairly good effect whereas trileptal made me more depressed. Some have noticed the opposite, but I don't know the conscencious.

supposedly the 2 are pretty comparable, except trileptal costs more $$$ (but not blood work) and you might need more tileptal for the same effects.
Also, trileptal is better in terms of drug-drug interactions.

Thanx for the replies,
Something weird has happened, after taking 200mg of tegretol im immediately elevated... feels like hypomania to me... its really weird as tegretol is suppose to be a mood stabilizer, but this happened once before as well... oh, the wild world of bipolarity

What med_empowered said is right.
I wasn't able to tolerate tegretol, but I am fine with trileptal. Trileptal is tegretol with an extra oxygen added to it which lessens the side effects and drug interactions.

Both drugs are very similar.
Its good in a sense, to start with Tegretol as its the stronger option of the two. If you respond well to it, then in all honesty theres no real need to try Trileptal, as it is suggested that it is a weaker medication when used for mood stabilisation.
However, if the side effects are too much with Tegretol, or you're running into problems with drugs interacting with it (many, many do) then it'll be a good idea to switch to Trileptal.
