Advice on Missed Dose Klonopin

Posted by tom_traubert on March 18, 2006, at 21:07:35

I'm currently on 1 mg of Klonopin, .5mg morning evening.

I'm pretty sure I forgot to take my .5mg this morning, and was wondering what was the best course to take...

skip it and just take the .5 at night, and deal with heightened anxiety/panic attacks if they arise?

take 1 mg tonight, making the possible (if I did actually take the .5 and just forgot) total for the day of 1.5mg and resume normally tomorrow.

I guess my question is which would be safer or easier on my system, the slight withdrawal today or the bump today and taper back down tomorrow.

I'm feeling okay now, the anxiety really only spiked when I couldn't remember if I had taken it.

It's the only medication I'm on, and I'm trying to keep it that way, as I am diagnosed both ocd and bipolar.

Any advice is very welcome. Thanks

Tom

That's fantastic if its the only medication you're on. Klonopin has up to a 16 hour half life, and if you've been taking it for a while its probably in your system many times over, so you might feel a bit of an anxiety spike for those extra 8 hours, depending on your system, but basically if you can handle it, just take it the next day I would think unless you're experiencing severe anxiety.

In my opinion you could take the .5 dose now epecially if your anxiety increases today. Though I take 2 mgs daily once in a while I take a little extra if I'm particularly anxious. I have forgotten my 2mg night dose before and took it in the am and was fine.

If you're feeling okay just I'd wait till bedtime and take your normal dose. The good thing about klonopin is it's long half life. You'll be fine either way.

Thanks a lot for the advice.

Although it's the only med I'm on now, it's certainly not the only one I've ever been on, not by a longshot. It's really important to me to know the proper management and try and do it right.

Thanks again,

tt
