This is weird. I have adhd-like syntoms and I found that the only med that work is Anafranil. The weird part is that it works only if I take 25mg pills while it doesn't work if take 10mg pills (at equivalent doses of course).
For example if I take five 10mg pills it has almost no effect on me but if I take two 25mg pills I experience a strong effect on my concentration.
Moreover the latter solution give me side effects like sleepiness dry, mouth and so on while I experience almost no side effects with the former.
I discover this accidentally and I made several experiments with the two options to be sure placebo effect was not involved.
When I talk about this to my p-doc I expected to be treated like a crazy but she told me that another one of her patients had had similar experiences.
My questions is: which would be a possible explaination ?
Sorry for my bad english and thanks in advance.

Hi Francesco
Welcome back to p-babble :)
I remember you saying that it's hard to get stimulants prescribed in Italy..........so I guess it's good that Anafranil works :)
Clomipramine (Anafranil) has a metabolite which acts as an NE reuptake inhibitor. This might help ADHD.
Desipramine (Nortimil) is the best established tricyclic antidepressant for ADHD. In general, I would expect it to be much more effective that clomipramine (Anafranil), but there are always exceptions! Have you tried it? It usually has less side effects than Anafranil eg. less drowsiness, less dry mouth.

I am a big fan of Anafranil just because of one experience I had on it 15 years ago. It cured me of my bad fear of spiders. I could hardly get into my bed, I had to check it so much for spiders. Anafranil cured that, and when I stopped taking it, the fear of spiders never came back.

I think that's very interesting. Can you say what your experiments were like? (You can babblemail me, if you don't want to post it.) Thanks.
P.S. I think your English is great! :)

I just wanted to mean that I tried both alternatives many times in different circumstances. I didn't expect taking five 10mg pills to be different from taking two 25 mg pills but it has happened anyway every time.

Yes, it's quite difficult. I managed to try Ritalin but it didn't work for me. And amphetamines aren't sold in the drugstores in Italy ;-)
> Clomipramine (Anafranil) has a metabolite which acts as an NE reuptake inhibitor. This might help ADHD.Yes, I think that is the point. Maybe the 10mg form doesn't produce the metabolite but it sounds quite strange to me anyway.

Yes, I've tried it and it didn't work for my adhd syntoms (above all difficulty in reading). It had a strong effect on my erection though. And not a good one ...

Hi F

Same in most parts of Europe. We have Dexedrine in the UK but it's not often prescribed.

:(
I guess it reduced the blood flow - strongly noradrenergic drugs can do that. Strattera and reboxetine are probably among the worst in that respect.
Have you ever tried nortriptyline?
