As most of you know I've been doing very well on Parnate for the last 2 mos. Lately I still feel great, except for the fact that I feel too relaxed-I'm lacking energy. I've got things I need to do but I'm so layed back I just don't feel like doing a whole lot. I don't feel sleepy..just very relaxed, not even fatigue, just flat out Lazy! By the way I'm sleeping fine now w/200mgs. of Trazodone,I was up to 400mgs. and that flat out made me very sleepy the next day. I wonder if thyroid 3 would help. I don't want to start adding too much. And one thing my pdoc will not prescribe are stimulants. Please let me know what you guys think/recommend. Below is a list of the meds I am on.
-Parnate 120 mgs/daily
-Trazodone 200 mgs at bedtime for insomnia
-Benadryl 50 mgs at bedtime for allergies and insomnia.-I also take a lot of supplements: mega multi-vit, mega multi min., fish oil, magnesium citrate, niacin, vit c, vit e, chromium, b-12, b-6, folic acid, b-1, royal jelly.
Thank you in advance for your imput,
Tyler

Would your doctor consider Provigil a stimulant? You can try taking inositol (alternative) and see if that helps. I had the same problem when I was on Parnate and I had to take Adderall with it. But I know my doctor won't let me do it this time.
I hope you find something that works for you.

Hi,
I was thinking two things:
1. do you really need the benadryl? trazodone may be enough to put u to sleep and the benadryl may be contributing to the lethargy
2. Try Alertec- its a non-stimulant activating drug.. many pdocs use it to help with sedation and fatigue from antipsychotics.. it may help u toobps

Ok buddy, here is my take. Remember I am not a doctor I just play one on the net ;-) First off if I remember correctly you take your full parnate dose all at once in the morning, right? Parnate has a short half life of about 6 hours so if your lack of energy is coming on you around 6 hours after your dose that is why. Try breaking up your dosing. Secondly I would have to agree with BPs when he/she (?) asked if you really need the benadryl. There are alot of allergy meds that don't cause drowsiness but will take care of your allegries just fine (claritin for instance) and none of them interact with parnate. The insomnia should be taken care of by the trazodone and if it isn't you need an adjustment of the dose. Your dose is high to begin with (imho, geez I'm knocked out cold by 25mg!) so I don't see why you need the benadryl. If you break up your parnate dose just make sure you don't take the second dosing too late.
So my plan for you is as follows...
1) Break up the parnate dose
2) Stop the Benadryl and take something else for allergies
3) Adjust your traz dose if need beYou'll get my bill in the mail ;-)
Your Parnate Pal,
JH

You might be. Do you get dizzy when you get up quick? I know that traz lowers my BP (I took it this morning and I swear it was 89/63) so it might be doing the same to you. What bp med do you take?

One drug to put you to sleep and another drug to wake you up sounds a little aggressive and unhealthy. I understand the insomnia problem though having been on Nardil. Maybe taking out the benedryl and splitting up the parnate like the other responders mentioned will help.
I'll add that its been very refreshing hearing about your success with parnate Tyler! It keeps me going with the knowledge that someone is doing well here.
Cheers.

Thanks Gibber,
I didn't take the Benadryl last night and so far this morning has been real good. Trazodone doesn't knock me out or anything, it just helps me stay asleep longer..I really think most of the problem is the Trazodone because it is sedating. I'm going to slowly reduce it. Also, spreading the Parnate out is good idea, but I won't take it after noon because it causes insomnia for me...that's why I prefer all in A.M. Thanks for your imput...I feel kinda bad for complaining, I still feel great, just a little tired is all.Tyler

I don't get dizzy, but I have tested my b.p. when I was kind of tired and the numbers were about 90/60..that's low for me. My wife bought a bp monitor yesterday so that'll help. I take Lisinopril 40 mgs. twice a day. Was thinking of trying 20 mgs. twice a day to see if that makes a difference..what do you think? Also slept fine without Benadryl last night, but still want to reduce Traz to at least 150 mgs. Just send me the bill Mam. :}Your Parnate Patient,

Thanks to everyone who gave advice/suggestions. With a few changes I'm feeling much better. I've totally eliminated Benadryl. And have reduced Trazodone to 100 mgs-eventually I would like to eliminate Traz, if possible. Instead of taking all my Parnate in the morning, I'm splitting it up in 3 different doses; a.m., noon, and 2:00, this is really helping! You guys are the best, a sincere Thanks to all.Tyler
