I'm really considering going on it....just to try it at least if nothing more. I cannot take any stims at work becuase it makes my anxiety too bad. So I figure if there is a low risk for bad side effects, physical OR mental, I might as well try it out. I've heard neutral responses...but many bad ones? Thanks!

I don't know if this qualifies as a bad experience, but I just got MAD on provigil. It seemed as though there was a constant "buzzing" in my head.
It resolved when I stopped taking provigil.
Also, WATCH OUT, provigil is EXPENSIVE. Last time I checked, its only indication was for use in narcolepsy. Its use in depression, etc... is considered "off label" and may not be covered by insurance.

Provigil made me feel better when I took it. It only lasted 4 hours though. I got real bad headaches when the medicine wore off. I've heard that the headaches go away after a while, I didn't take it consistently, so I never got a chance to find out if my headaches would have went away.

I tried it and LOVED it, but couldn't take it because of some muscle spasms that started around the same time. Now I've heard of other people having these same spasms with the other drug I started at the same time as Provigil. I am thinking of trying it again, if the doc will let me. I got more accomplished in the three days I was on it than I had in the last few years. I was motivated and happy. I didn't have any bad side effects (aside from the twitching which we don't know was caused by this drug or not); however, I was only on it for three days.
I pray the doc lets me try it again. It was great for me and didn't set off any of my anxiety, which is a BIG problem for me. See if you can get a sample and try it for a few days before buying it. My doc wrote a script for five days worth because it was less expensive for me.
Good luck and let us know if you try it. I'd love to hear from others about how it affects them.

Taken Provigil for about 2 years now. I had a really tough time with it at first and almost gave up on it. Then my doc told me that I could play around with lower doses and timing and its been great ever since. Just when I finally was good with it my insurance stopped paying for it. WHOA!!!!!!!! Big bucks. My doc has been helping me with that with samples and stuff because she knows that its the med I'm most comfortable with and seems to have the least side effects of anything. I'm soooo med sensitive and I tend to have every side effect in the book and the ones not in the book. I have noticed that Provigil will act differently if you are taking something else also. It seems to increase effects of some meds and doesn't seem to work as well if you are taking very sedating meds. It was major trial and error but it is the one thing I'm very comfortable and happy with. NOW....if the insurance companies would start covering it again it would be really great for alot of people. It seems to me to have very little abuse potential compared to some stimulants that are easily covered and unless there is going to be something coming up down the road from long term use it has basically NO side effects once your body gets used to it.

I tried it briefly but wasn't impressed. It didn't increase my alertness at all. I felt rather depressed and stupid on it.

Provigil made my depression worse and added some cognitive muddiness. It took over a week after I stopped taking it for these effects to disappear. I was only on it for 8 days.

Chewed up my stomach; even my friend, "Iron Guts" still refers to it as "pretty rough on the tummy," after being on it for close to 4 yrs. NO other med has ever bothered her stomach.
I tried lowering the dosage; no difference re: stomach upset - constipation, and, especially, nausea.
Felt abit speedy; since not too speedy, I didn't mind that part one bit. But, just like Ritalin for me (I don't have ADD; I have Major Depressive Disorder), IMO, Provigil is not a true augmentor. I know/ can feel the difference. My (last ever) shrink agreed. However, at least I didn't have the terrible crashes - that I had on Ritalin - with Provigil.
Another problem with Provigil for me was that it simply wasn't consistent. Days 1-3 were almost always good - if you can call wide awake and able to (over) focus while still depressed good. By day 4, these "gains" waned until nothing. This happened each time I tried Provigil, I was on fairly long trials; call me ever hopeful...

It's helping some with distractibility and impulsiveness and also with reducing binge eating.
I am beginning to wonder, though, if it's giving me acne. It's not bad, but I definitely have more er, blackheads and occasional break-out than I have in a long time. I have a vague feeling that this began roughly when I began Provigil, but I can't be sure.
It really stinks to have acne AND crows feet! sigh

Yes -
it made me feel depressed and strange (can't describe it any other way). It also made my muscles feel stiff and sore, so my pharmacist told me to stop taking it.

Just in case you want to hear of a good experience- overall, provigel did me good.
I felt alert and awake on provigel- not necesarily any smarter, active, or attentive though. Just a very calm wakeful state. Definately not anxious, except a teeny tad racey one foolish time I took two tablets instead of one just to see what would happen-as if it might be even more beneficial. (A dumb idea- not sure why I did that. I guess I wanted "pep" that day. No excuse. Stupid.) Ritalin ultimately proved to be more suitable to my particular issues. As for acne- geez- that's often been a problem for me but I didn't notice the connection with provigel- which doesn't mean much, as I wasn't even on provigel long and can be slow to catch on to connections. I don't discount it at all. I'm very curious about it. What a bummer to have to weigh that consequence with treatment. I'm truely sorry to hear of it. I often wonder what other "secret" side effects could be occuring with various prescriptions.
This is the end of the thread.
