that time of night again...is this normal, or ER?

Posted by heaven help me on May 19, 2006, at 21:03:25

Help again. It always seems that things go whacky just after the Dr. office is closed and I am stuck for the weekend.
This so called Vertigo is WORSE!!!! It's almost more like the feeling that I am about to pass out, with a flush. I did a Google on Geodon and it talks about low blood pressure (which I have always had) being a possible problem.
I have been taking Magnesium for a few days which seems to calm (but does it exasberate the "vertigo"?) The anxiety is increasing...do I call the on-call Dr? Do I go to ER because I'm about to pass out? Do I just go to bed and let it at least look a bit better in the am. Does ANYONE know more about Geodon? Am I in danger?

Try taking the valium, and see if you can at least feel a little calmer.

The vertigo could be from an inner ear infection, which can be transient, but could last for some weeks. I've had that, although not as severely as you. It is a really frightening symptom, and can be quite persistent.

When you panic about something, that can exacerbate any symptoms--esp. something like dizziness or lightheadedness. So start with something for anxiety, and when that kicks in, you can reevaluate the symptom.

I'll be checking tonight.

Best, Jost

And for goodness sake don't think of driving if your're dizzy. Lie down and take the valium first. Love phillipa

If there is no danger of psychosis (schizoid or manic), I would consider discontinuing the Geodon until you are able to speak to your doctor. It would at least help to identify a cause-and-effect relationship.

What are you taking Geodon for?

Spent the evening at the ER room. They took blood and ran bunches of tests, took vitals, etc. NOTHING came back (I guess that is a praise). The deduction is that it likely is an inner ear infection. I see my PA on Thu. so I'm just hanging on till then. I am afraid to take the Valium ON TOP of my current cocktail but I will try to be less afraid of it and take it next time the fear sets in (but NOT drive :)
I am on the Geodon for BP2 and am wondering myself if its the right stuff. Will ask Thu. I don't want to take a weight gainer!
THANK YOU for your care - sometimes its what gets me through
Love you guys
Mary
