I've been on Seroquel and Abilify in the past and had bad side effects. Akastasia and feeling like a zombie and wanting to sleep all day were the worst side effects not to mention back pain also. I am suppose to start taking 120mg of Geodon tonight. I've never tried it before and am afraid of it. I don't want to go through what I already went through with the other APs. Is Geodon better than the other two and is there reason to believe that I wouldn't react the same way to this med? I have been diagnosed as bipolar 2 with rapid cycling with GAD. My hypomania has not been seen since I've stopped taking ADs. The worst of my symptoms is this horrible, deabilitating depression. Can Geodon help me?

Doc gsve me Serequel yesterday and it knocked me out in one hour. I slept for 14 hours. Is the stuff shot from helicopters and used to capture wild animals in the outback? This is the second time doc has done this to me. The first time was with Zyprexa. I need to get "up" not "down."So I woke this morning wondering the same question you asked. I am calling her today to ask.
Anyone?

I looked up Geodon on their web site and it said that it should be started at the lowest dose, 20mg and worked up from there. It said the max dose that should be taken is 160mg. The most a pill comes in is 80mg.

I took it last night at 9:00 and went to bed at about 10:30. I woke up this morning at 8:30 and tried to get out of the bed and fell onto the floor. I felt so drugged up, not sleepy. I was very dizzy feeling and felt out of it. I had to go lay back down and didn't get up until 1:30 today. Still kind of dizzy feeling, but I'm starting the feeling restlessness already. I remember how it started with the Seroquel and Abilify. The first day or two, I felt very energized, like I could run for miles, then the not being able to sit still started. I called my pdoc to ask if I could just take 40mg instead of 120mg and I'm waiting to hear back from him. I have a 4 year old and a 6 year old here with me, I can't be drugged out of my mind and sleep til 1:30! Thank God my husband is on vacation this week. I hate that drugged up feeling. I want to be on the other end of the spectrum. I want a clear head and motivation. Not a dead head. The pdoc knows I'm sensitive to meds and my past experience with the APs, I think he purposely started me on this high dose to make me change docs because he doesn't know what to do with me.

I know, it doesn't make sence to me to start at such a high dose right off the bat either. I didn't get to talk to the pdoc today so I'm just going to take one of the 40mg capsules tonight and see how I do tomorrow. I'd like to see him take the 120mg dose for the first time like I did and see how he feels.

Let's see, my bad list is; Effexor, Wellbutrin, Celexa, Lexapro, Zoloft, Prozac, Cymbalta, Lithium, Depakote, Lamictal, Seroquel, Abilify and I can't remember at the moment what else.
The good list; Topamax. But I was only on it for about 5 weeks and topped out at 50mg so I can't say for sure if it would've been any good for me or not since I never got to continue or go at a higher dose.
I know I had only tingling in my fingers and lips as a bad side effect and as a good, I lost the urge to eat compulsively. I don't know about if it helped as a mood stablizer because at the time I was taking it with Lamictal and never got to a higher dose than 50mg. I began seeing a new pdoc and he stopped the Topamax and added Seroquel and Zoloft to the Lamictal.
My now newer pdoc still won't let me go back to trying it.
I think he thinks it would be more fun to watch me squirm with the Geodon.
Good luck with the Abilify. It gave me awful akastasia. But so did the Seroquel. Maybe it will work good for you. I'll cross my fingers for you.

I didn't get zonked-out by the Ablify! Yay! I slept as little more restless, but I slept good. I really didn't feel much of anything from it yet. I'll give it more time. I have a little headache this morning, though. Nothing that staring at my computer all day at work won't fix right? Ha!

Oh, I forgot to tell you that the Geodon makes me really tired, as in, I can not take it in the day. My PA let me take the full 120mg at night, which is how I have been taking it, otherwise I am tooo sleepy to function. Even now it take coffee to get going int the am and it never used to. PLASE keep us posted as to how this goes!

I tried Seroquel and it stopped by bowels dead. Then onto Geoodon. I was all the way up to 160 mgs for a few weeks and still flying high. As I started to come down, so did the dose. Now I'm at 60 at night and 20 in the morning and relaly liking this stuff. It took weeks until I didn't feel zombified every morning but now I think clearly and well and function well at work. It just took time.
