Hi Phillipa,
I had an appointment with my pdoc today and I asked him about the whole spinal tap thing. He said it was used in the past for research and it's not used today to determine deficiences or/and which meds to use. It is, of course, used for other purposes. I don't know why it isn't used, one would think that if meds and ECT fails it could be feasible option, maybe it is, I don't know.
