When do you remove the Emsam patch before going to sleep to prevent insomnia?

I removed it an hour, or an hour and a half, before going to sleep.

That's approximate, because I usually read in bed, for indeterminate periods of time, so I can't exactly say. (I had pre-existing insomnia, which was only slightly aggravated on emsam.)

Have you restarted?

I tend to wake up during the night, and often would put it on after about five or six hours of sleep, and take a sonata to get back to sleep. This was to have the patch on for an adequate number of hours.

I'll be very interested to hear how you're doing Scott.

best, Jost

Thanks for asking, Jost.

I asked this question on behalf of my doctor, to whom I described the strategy of removing the patch before going to bed.

I started taking Nardil about 2 weeks ago. I have not responded robustly to it over the last 15 years when I've tried it, but I'm hoping for a better outcome now that I am combining it with other medications.

I am currently taking:

nortriptyline 100mg
Nardil 60mg
Lamictal 150mg
Topamax 100mg
Abilify 10mg

Hi Scott. Actually, I thought more about what my pdoc had said, vs. what I had done--and he may very well have suggested 3-4 hours.

I didn't do that before, but I may take it off earlier in the evening this time around. At the time, I was more concerned about keeping the dosage up, because it was the first AD that had worked-- at all-- This time, despite a bit of uncertainty, I'm not so focussed on getting to 9 mg/24hr.

It's still very possible the Nardil could work well for you. It might take longer than you expect, because its interactions with the other drugs may make it come on more gradually-- or may give a more subtle, but still quite significant impact.

I have my fingers crossed-- for both of us. My heart symptoms (unrelated to the Emsam, but not compatible with it) haven't reemerged-- after three full days, so maybe, in a while, at least, I'll be in a better place. I hope you will, too.

Jost you're back on the patch? Isn't there a way to combine the threads again. Could you maybe post a thread saying the EMSAM thread? That way at a glance everyone would know where everyone is at dose wise and symptom wise like in the begininning still want to try it. Stargazer is doing well and some other who don't post. I think it would help a lot of others. Love Phillipa
