Wellbutrin to Parnate washout?

Posted by halcyondaze on November 19, 2006, at 23:21:42

Is a one-week washout from Wellbutrin to Parnate considered sufficient or is two weeks necessary?

I don't believe any washout is necessary. Just my opinion. It probably depends on how fast you start the Parnate - I think starting slow is a good idea, regardless.

I take Parnate *with* Wellbutrin, currently. As in, therapeutically.

Really? I thought Wellbutrin is involved in DA and NE reuptake. Why isn't it contraindicated?

What dose do you take?

I'm taking 75 mg BID (short-acting version), have only been on it for a short time, and want to get off of it ASAP but am afraid to go through an entire two weeks.

The manufacturer states that it is contraindicated, although there is no evidence of it. NE and DA reuptake is not always prohibitive. Stimulants and TCAs are sometimes combined with MAOIs. You do have to exercise great caution with this sort of thing.

I take 200mg of Wellbutrin SR. My average blood pressure is 108/62.

You really should be asking your doctor this question. From what I recall from psychopharmacology, taking the two together may depend on which is started first. To be safe and not cause yourself lethal harm, please ask your doctor. I am going to be going on ENSAM but have to get off of Cymbalta for two weeks before starting the ENSAM, and when I was on Parnate, I had to wait two weeks before starting a non-MAOI. So please ask your doctor, and do not depend on comments from me or others to guide your decision.
