P-doc in Seattle? Ritalin SEs intolerable

Posted by seamus2 on December 26, 2006, at 20:31:40

My ADD is managed extremely well by relatively tiny doses of Desoxyn (5 mg BID, if that).

I had a doc in San Francisco (name on request -- don 't know if it's kosher to post here) who knew me for years and didn't mind prescribing it, but discovered he was in the minority when I moved to Ohio, where the only doc in town not only didn't know it was used for ADD, but was too ashamed to check the PDR until I insisted she do so.

I didn't want to play into her little power trip, so satisfied myself with Ritalin 5 mg PRN on a very irregular basis, and I hate it.

Works fine for a couple hours, but at hour 3.5 I crash and then feel like sh*t for another 4, during which my heart pounds.

I was accomplishing so much on my little doses of Desoxyn and just want to take it again without the games and hassle and risk of a cardio-vascular event...

Anyone know of a rational psychiatrist in Seattle who's willing to prescribe it without a lengthy song and dance? Prefer one knowledgeable with Transactional Analysis.

When I lived in Seattle, I went to Ron Sterling... He seemed like a fairly progressive P-Doc--He had no problems prescribing me a MAOI and a benzo. he just happens to have a website : http://www.dearshrink.com/seattlef.htm
good luck!

What about ritalin LA? Is that an option. I had much less crashing on it vs. IR formulation.

Thanks djimm. Saw Sterling last week and he seemed intelligent and well-informed. After taking a lengthy and thorough history, he prescribed my Desoxyn.

I'd forgotten how much calmer the stuff makes me feel. Needless to say, its efficacy is amazing. Now the only problem is splitting those tiny little tablets in half.
