Tylenol when on Effexor?

Posted by doriesmith on January 15, 2007, at 17:00:07

Hi, I was just wondering what kind of pain reliever (for headaches and such) you can safely take when taking Effexor? I'm new to Effexor and don't want to make myself sick. I get tension and migraine headaches occasionally and cramping with my menstrual cycle. I was curious what others take. Thanks, Dorie

You can safely take all OTC painkillers except for perhaps tramadol (it has SNRI effects itself).

Pretty much everything as noted. Personally I find ibuprofen and its derivatives better for pain and acetaminophen the only good medication for fever and strangely sometimes anxiety created "heat sensations." Aleve will do some odd psychiatric things to me sometimes, I try to stay away from that, but for some naproxen is good for arthritis and the like.

OTC Migraine preparations usually require caffeine to be added to them to make them more effective for migraines so they may hype you above the Effexor if you don't react well to the caffeine, but sometimes it is just necessary to do what you can do, I've never had migraines but I know they can be hideous from those who do. I do get tension headaches though.

Some versions of Midol and the like do, at least last time when I was curious of what the difference was, have some approved OTC anticramping agent, I believe the diuretic pamabrom. But basically they're also ibuprofen.

Jay what about the heat sensations waking me up as they are lowering the synthroid as I'm now hyper thyroid? Been using Ibuphophen. Love Jan

I can't vouch for what hyperthyroidism can do in a person, I'm not an expert there, but anxiety itself can cause sensations of heat when there in fact is no heat (another person touching will notice nothing.) This is caused by the autonomic nervous system.
