Cameron Diaz admits to germ-phobia....

Think about it. If you were as perfect as CAMERON DIAZ, would you want to palm strange bathroom doorknobs? The model cum actress, 25, despite being Matt Dillon's girlfriend, is deeply germophobic. The star of A Life Less Ordinary hasn't worked since shooting that film last winter, instead devoting much of her time to scrubbing her Hollywood home scrupulously. Along with her floors, she says, she washes her hands "many times" each day and uses her elbows to push open doors. "I'm not scared of germs. I'm just aware of them," Diaz says. "I'm not into other people's fluids unless I know them really well.
"

This was written in 1997 so perhaps she's gotten over it by now. Good to know I'm not the only one who opens public doors with their elbows....

If I just washed my hands and am in a bathroom in a fastfood restaurant I always open the door with my sweatshirt. Cause I have no way of knowing if the last person washed their hands. And it's not so much the germs but hepatitis from food or blood. I eat fruit in the store without washing it. To build up my immunity. Yes I know about the pesticides so recently I stopped doing this too. Love Phillipa

I'm probably the only teacher in school who regularly sanitizes the door handles and water fountain buttons in my classroom. And the piano keys. It's for my benefit and theirs, really. I don't want them getting sick anymore than I want to get sick. When my choir kids are sick, they can't sing. So it's a benefit all around. I'm sure some people think I'm nuts for it, but I think it has helped. I've only gotten one cold this school year, and no flu. so, it must be working. Hurray for germaphobes! :D

Well. Now its doubly good to know that I'm not the only one!

I think my phobia stems from when I got realy bad food poisoning (I had to be hospitalised) because I visited a dirty bathroom in a pub.

But strangely I'm not so germ phobic as chemical phobic. I'm far more scared of man made chemicals entering my system than natural stuff which I know is supposed to be good at keeping my immune system in check.

Oh well.

I've found a hand wash that doesn't chaff my hands which is a major development for me.

I poisoned myself just this morning actually! I think it was probably from leaving a pot of mince stew out in all this hot weather we've been having. It was only two days old and smelt alright, but it had been left out on the cooker and sunlight might have been shining on it? Anyway, I seem to have recovered now.

Yeah, I open toilet doors with my shirt or a tissue. It's also a good idea to try and get out of the habit of touching your eyes and mouth (not saying you do have a habit), which is how the germs enter your body. Germs on your fingertips aren't going to poison you of course, and then there's those handy bottles of alcohol gel you can get now that kill all germs within seconds and are 100% natural?
