Strattera and Prozac are counteracting eachother

Posted by rjlockhart on August 1, 2007, at 14:32:00

Im just started Strattera today, because i head back to school auguest 31st.

I took 18mg and i tell you i feel like a zombie, the prozac feels like it is blunted by Strattera.

One thing i dont like about this ADHD medication is first it takes a while to work, then it has a depression side effect.

I need to know, i am not used to this feeling that it gives me. I feel depressed and out there.

Does anyone here have a comment about strattera?

If you're just starting today, you're experiencing a start up effect which will probably pass.

My experience with Strattera was that that, in combination with Prozac -- or Zoloft? I forget which right now -- it was a pretty good combination anti-depressant for me. I did experience jitters, which wasn't great for me, but I had other things going on at the same time, which probably contributed to it for me.

Give it time, be consistent in taking it -- time of day, etc -- and see how it goes.

Hi M.,

Strat is almost the only thing I write about on this board. I wrote to you last week:

http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/20070719/msgs/771814.html

Now I KNOW that's a long post and I'm sorry - just my style. But I did give you some good info and links, too. Hope there's something there that helps a bit.

I do hope you give this med more than one day and work with your pdoc on it. It well may NOT kick in with the results you hope for, until 40mg, as I mentioned, but everyone's different. Is there a plan to ramp it up slowly?

Also, perhaps today is just a down day for you? Maybe not even related to the Strattera, you know? I think....it would be hard to know for sure until at least a week goes by. But I don't have a lot of experience w/med trials (except adjusting my own Ritalin doses/timing) and you do know your own body. I'm just suggesting possibilities :-)

Please do keep posting about how it's going.

M sounds like good advise and remember prozac lasts a long time in your body about five weeks so it should be much easier to go to stattera alone. Good luck keep posting Phillipa

The strattera i've been on two days now at 18mg.

I can feel it somewhat but not to its full extent. What i dont like about it is the way it makes me feel. It doesnt help much with motivation. It help with Attention, but sometimes im in a bad mood and attentive.

I swear, i tried to lay down today after work, and then after i worked out, it would not let me sleep. I even took Xanax at a moderate dosage 2mg. Which i am think i am getting getting tolerant to xanax.

Sh^t wellbutrin works better than this.

I will continue it for a couple of months. But i can tell you its not as effective stimulants such as Adderall.

Im anxious as hell, it increases norephenphrine which can increase anxiety. Xanax which i thought was a wonder thing for anxiety isnt helping.
