My pdoc has just prescribed Concerta to augment my AD (cipralex) to help with moderate ADD and some SSRI-induced apathy.
I was wondering if those who have used either Concerta or Ritalin could share their experiences with me. Does it help with apathy and motivation? Will I experience some initial anxiety/agitation when I start taking it?
Anything you have to offer would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

I can't tell you what it does for me -- but I can tell you that it does something for me.
(So, uh, you said *any* experience would be helpful for you? lol)
On the days that I don't take it, I am much more aware of how depressed and amotivated I am. I'm not sure I can say that it increases my motivation, but at least it allows me to function a lot more effectively than I do otherwise. Sometimes it does increase my anxiety, although I'm also on Wellbutrin XL, so that may be involved, too. I guess I can say I feel stronger, or more resilient on it.
Do I concentrate better? I don't know.
I hope that helps.

Stimulants are tricky. You are most likely going to feel amazing when you start taking it. Energy and motivation like you've never had. The problem is, that wears off with time and often stimulants can create sort of an emotional rollercoaster. You can feel amazing for part of the day and then crash eventually and feel increadibly horrible. It will also supress your appetite and that tends not to go away completely. I think there might be some slight risk of addiction too. I've tried Adderall, Concerta and now I'm on Dexadrine. I'm increadibly sensative to meds and Dexadrine works best for me. The nice thing about them is they work immediately, you'll get the benefits by day 2....no waiting 2 months to see if it will work. Stimulants are defenetily worth a shot. Search the archives and you'll find lots of info on the differences between the different stimulants.
