Recently Dx with BP II. I have no mania, but instead pdoc think it comes out as terrible anxiety and depression, no co-morbid. Been suffering over a year.
Old meds still on:
Serzone 125mg bid <-----Been weening from 200mg bid
Klonopin 1mg bid
Xanax 0.25mg tid
Metoprolol 12.5mg bidNew Meds:
Rispirdal 0.0625mg qhs
Vistiril 25mg prn for Serzone withdrawal
Depakote 125mg qhs
Lexapro 2.5mg qhsThe Depakote Knocks me out within 20 min. of taking it and this is my second day on it, but I am so sedated and Slept almost 12 hours. Does this go away, or should I try Lamictal or something less sedating. I'll never get back to work with this kind of sedation.
Overall Progress:
Today is the first day I woke up without anxiety. Lexapro definately helping Depression as felt the lift for last 3 weeks before I introduced the Risperdal or Depakote. It's been almost a year since this all started. I finally feel like I'm coming out of it all a little. My mood is much better, but the anxiety lingers every day until this morning.
Last night I opened the Depakote capsule and just took half of the 125mg=62.5mg or pretty close to it. Still sedated this am, just not as much. But thats a baby dose. Is there any point in taking such a low dose. Even at 125mg, they say it's sub theaurapeutic.

Gary sounds like you're finally making some positive progress congrats on the depression bet the anxiety goes next and sometimes people need to start low on a med and work up. Have you asked pdoc about it? Phillipa

Depakote put me into a drunken stupor at 100 mg. I had to go off it because I was a danger to myself (would have probably walked into traffic).

Just my experience and it was horrible with Depakote. It had me in my pajamas drooling like a zombie and smoking cigarettes on the porch all day long. What a life! I cringe now at the site of the drug. Good Luck!! I swear by Lamictal and Topamax though.

I only started on Depakote today at a huge 500mg dose, needless to say that I feel like I just smoked a huge joint, but I like it!
