Hi there,
I have recently been prescribed Nardil, which is , and I would really like to know if whey protein powder would be safe to take while on this medication.
However I am not sure (and cannot find any information) about whether Whey Protein is a food that has a Tyramine content which could be dangerous. I am concerned because Whey protein is obviously concentrated and processed milk protein, and perhaps during this processing, it steadily builds up a large Tyramine content from the L-Tyrosine breaking down. Also I have read in one list that L-Tyrosine is something that should be avoided, and whey protein actually contains fairly high quantities of this. Is L-Tyrosine really that bad?
Thank you very much for helping me on this, I have already emailed this question to many leading companies (Optimum nutrition, My Protein, Pfitzer, Pharmacy companies and universities) and I have not recieved one reply as of yet, so I look forward to hearing from your responses here.

There are several long threads on this subject in the archives. You should search for "whey protein" and they should come up. I'm not sure what the upshot of the last discussion was, but you can read it and come to own judgment.

While dairy it is not aged and is the same as fresh dairy. nasically everything is removed except the protein portion.
This is the end of the thread.
