Hi there,
Does anyone have any info on the combination of an MAOI like Nardil and Amantadine, specifically for reducing Nardil weight gain and more importantly, for additional stimulation for ADHD symptoms, anhedonia, and apathy? The NMDA effects and Dopamine Agonist properties seem unique in amantadine. I tried mirapex and it didn't do much for anhedonia and I think may have exacerbated some compulsive behaviors. In addition the dosing was strange and I was afraid to go up too high. It also was rather sedating.
Any comments on combining MAOIs with a stimulant, specifically amantadine?

I took amantadine for a couple of weeks and didn't find it stimulating at all. In fact, it made me sleepy. It works similar to requip and bromocriptine on the d2 an d3 receptors and both those drugs are rather sedating. Did you find Mirapex stimulating??

mirapex was definitely not stimulating like ritalin. but i hear with these agonists its all about the dose.
what other effects did you feel with amantadine? and wat what dose were you at? what else did you take it with?
thnx much

Sorry, I didn't read your post carefully enough. You did say you found Mirapex sedating. I think you're likely to find the same with amantadine. In my experience all the dopamine agonists seem to have a a sedating effect. Which is really weird as many antipsychotics, which would seem to work the opposite way, are also sedating.

Hmm so I wonder if taking it before I sleep would even be effective for the next day for ADHD / depression augmentation. Have any guidance on that one?
I assume you ddin't find this med useful if you aren't taking it anymore?

uncouth,
Actually, I did feel a little bit better on it, but I stopped mainly because I had HORRIBLE constipation on it that didn't seem to respond to laxatives or the colon clenz stuff I normally take.
This is the end of the thread.
