Nardil does it again.. @ 6mo

Posted by Neurogen on March 14, 2009, at 0:54:45

I originally took Nardil a little over a year ago for lifelong SA/dep(dysthymia). Titrated up to 75mg, (1mg/kg) w/in 5days. Within a week or two my disorders were wiped out. Nardil euphoria. Felt fixed, continued med for only 6weeks, disliked the psych, and didn't pursue meds elsewhere.

5months later, with many negative and stressful life events taking place, I slide into a very severe melancholic depression, SAD relapse, + PureOCD.

Nardil treatment
-2weeks 60mg nothing
-11weeks 75mg, slow but steady climb up into mild depression, anxiety still bothersome.
-6weeks 90mg, depression mostly wiped out 1st week. anxiety still lingering. Adjunct .5-1mg klonopin, prn.
-2weeks 105mg, stop klonopin, slight improvement in anxiety. Annoyance of side effects (weight gain, anorgasmia, insomnia, and others reemerging at new high dosage) make me try a try a week long titration down to 30mg, which quickly led to alleviation of side effects, but also poor mood. I quickly titrated back to 75mg, original kg/mg.
3 weeks at 75 now. Anxiety finally smushed.

Side effects.. 25pounds heavier, and dropping off. Just exercise and watch what you eat. Mild insomnia. All other SE's have diminished to practically nothing.

I also took cog therapy bi monthly for 4months; it helped alot.

FYI. :)

hey how much do you exercise if you don't mind me asking? i am paranoid about weight gain even though i am quite slender. i just don't want my clothes to stop fitting me. i swim, weight train, and do boxing. so far i haven't gained anything, but lately i walk around with a little belly all day from being so full and am worried it's all gonna catch up with me soon :)

I workout about 4-5 times a week. Run for 30min, and do calisthenics- pushups/pullups/core/legs on different days. So an hour a day.
Sounds like you have a good routine.
Nardil munchies makes it easy to put on weight. The food cravings are another side effect that went away in time.
I remember for the first 2 months I had a really bloated stomach. Real "full", from the ton of food consumed, urinary retention, constipation, stomach edema. Annoying, but it fixed itself.

Hi Neurogen,

Glad to hear Nardil works so well for you. I have had the same results with Parnate. I'm on it for the first time, however, and it took a full 4 months for me to feel in remission. With s/e's, any response along the way was kind of a wash. Now I feel great but I earned it.

I have a friend who's on Nardil, I was wondering if you suffer from any Low BP, fatigue, or undesireable side effects if you alter your dosing schedule ie skip morning dose, skip a day, etc. Do you augment Nardil with anything? Did you last time?

Thanks for any response! I've posted on Parnate below you...

Hey Jade,
I'm glad Parnate works for ya. If I was unsatisfied with Nardil, it's the next thing I'd try.
It doesn't matter when in the day I take it. Missing one day probably doesn't do much. I take all my pills in the morning now, for convenience. But a few days of cold turkey will not likely be good.
As a regular side effect, hypotension never got bad for me. I did have daytime/afternoon fatigue for the first 2months or so.

Other drugs taken with Nardil, not necessarily augmentative, but who knows for sure:

marijuana- nootropic? :P
piracetam- nootropic
idebenone- nootropic
choline- nootropic
alpha gpc- nootropic
alcar- nootropic
