I've been taking 75mg Effexor XR for just over five weeks now and - apart from a few other side effects - I'm getting really bad insomnia. I struggle to get to sleep at night and when I do finally get to sleep I find that I constantly keep waking up early in the morning. I end up getting about four hours sleep a night. I'm having to rely on Promazine to help me sleep as my doctor won't prescribe any other sleeping medication.
I'm also taking 600mg lithium and 40mg buspirone for anxiety/depression. I'm certain it's the Effexor as I never had this before I was taking it. OK - I've found it difficult to fall asleep sometimes, but never had the early morning waking like this before.
Has anyone else experience difficulty sleeping/regular waking while taking Effexor? If so, is it likely to go away??

I tried Effexor once for three days and just couldn't hack it. The insomnia was terrible, and I'd get nauseated, sweat buckets, and shake. I wish I could give you more advice, but I just couldn't hack it.
