I'm sure there's been plenty of discussion about this before, but I have to ask because I'm debating on what to do today.
I know a lot of drugs lose their potency after expiration, but I've heard some can intensify & become more potent. I just took my first 20mg Celexa about 13 hrs ago & my serotonin levels are still through the roof, like I'm on ecstacy or something. I was on 10mg Lexapro (supposed to be equivalent to 20mg of Celexa) a while back & it did the same thing at first, but not as much & it didn't last as long. Do you think this drug has intensified? Is that possible? Has anyone else felt that Celexa was stronger than Lexapro? or am I just experiencing an overload of serotonin? I know about the serotonin syndrome. I've been monitoring myself, but haven't had any of the "scary" effects. I'm thinking about skipping both meds today (Wellbutrin & Celexa) & trying my Wellbutrin with 10mg of Celexa instead of 20mg tomorrow. Anyone?

So wellbutrin gives you no problems? What's diagnosis? Why the switch to lexapro if celexa was working or wasn't it??? Phillipa

So you tolerate the l0 of lexapro it's the celexa that is the problem? Read here once that celexa was better for depression and lex better for anxiety. Hope don't have that backwords if so someone will surely correct me which is more than fine. Phillipa

I don't think the expiration date has anything to do with it, in this case. A couple doctors have told me that expiration dates really need to be 2+ years out of date for there to be any noticeable difference, or even longer, except with a few where it is poisonous such as the antibiotic Doxycycline.
Though celexa is is the parent of lexapro, lexapro is a modified version of celexa, they are actually two distinctly different molecules, two distinctly different drugs. Very similar, but also very different. I have heard of people responding very well to one but not the other, and the other way around.

Not really any problems with the wellbutrin. I was taking it to help with motivation & apathy. Also, the Lexapro was making me very sleepy, so the Wellbutrin counteracted that.
Lexapro was working, but generic Celexa is much cheaper. That was the reason for the switch.

Yes, the generic Celexa is the problem. Also, don't have a real diagnosis...possibly either Atypical depression with anxiety or BP II. Depression & anger are my main problems. I usually get angry/irritable & then depressed. The Lexapro helped with both tremendously. Am supposed to add Triliptel to balance things out once I get used the Wellbutrin & generic Celexa.

I've been on Lexapro for 4 months. It has caused my skin to break out in a rash which is now under control but on top of that my skin is sooooo dry that any moisturizer I put on it makes it sting like crazy. Even vaseline. My hair is also much drier. Does anyone know if Celexa would affect me this way also. Don't know what to do. The Lexapro has helped with depression but not anxiety.
Thanks, Karen
