I want to reduce my dose of remeron from 45mgs to 15mgs. I started Prisiq two weeks ago and am finding it a little too stimulating. So my thinking is that the remeron never helped mood, just my sleep and I think it is actually more sedating at lower doses. Two pdocs have suggested I wean off it because they thought I was exaccerbating my anxiety. So makes sense to at least decrease it, yes? I am afraid to go off it entirely because it is the only med I've taken that helps me sleep through the night.
What seems like a reasonable weaning schedule? 15mgs a week?
ThanksZana

I'd try 7.5mg/week to be on the safe side, assuming you can divide the tablets that small.

Why would you go down so slowly?

Yeah, there's a thread you might be interested to read where loads of us pitched in and said we found it useless. To me, it barely qualifies as an antidepressant.

It is my belief the best weaning schedule is one that works for you on a day by day basis, not one that is preplanned.
When I weaned off Remeron I did it in approximately 2.5mg to 4mg chunks, by using a knife or razor blade to shave amounts off the pills. Going from 45 to 30 to 15 would have been way too huge for me to handle.
I dropped down in tiny steps about once every 3 or 4 days. Sometimes a little slower, sometimes a little faster, and sometimes pausing for a while, depending on how I was handling it.
The worst withdrawals for me didn't happen until the final 0mg 7.5mg range. So if you are going to keep taking it for sleep, you'll never have to worry about that final stage.
I found 7.5mg, or even about 4mg, much better for sleep than any other higher dose.

whoa now, surprised to hear this thread people talking about Remeron being a "worthless" med.
After years of treatment-resistant and a cornucopia of meds i'm already on including agomelatine, I decided, for the first time, to try Remeron at 30mg a few nights ago. Hesitated before due to weight gain issues, but everything I've read (Stahl's pharmacology books, most notably) talk about how effective Remeron is for moderate-to-severe depression.
Are they smokin' something? Is remeron in reality not all that effective? Currently on Nortriptyline 200mg after 300mg of Effexor didn't work like it did the last time I was on it a few years ago.
So please don't be shy...what's the real deal on Remeron from fellow treatment-resistant sufferers.....

There's another thread titled "Remeron for treatment resistant depression" you'd find interesting:

Completely unscientific I know, but I don't think any of the posters found it useful for TRD.
Any claims of it having serotonergic action are pretty dubious, but I guess if your depression is all about norepinephrine (with accompanying anorexia and insomnia!) it could work.
