Well, I have good news, the parnate is starting to kick in!! I've noticed a really big difference in the mornings, I actually wake up in a good mood and can get going. I think I'm experiencing some mid day fatigue, but then when I'm ready for bed sometimes I can't fall asleep. So I called my pdoc and asked him if he could prescribe something for sleep and he called in trazodone for me. I dont' know too much about this med and was just wondering what others experiences where with it. I'm also wondering why he didn't just call in ambien for me instead, why another antidepressant? I just hate to start taking something for depression when I really just need something for sleep.

Monica congrats on your positive response to parnate. Did you ask the doc why he chose trazadone. Maybe because not addictive and has a reputation for great sleep. Sure others will pipe in with their experiencs. Love Phillipa

Congrats on starting to feel the effects of the Parnate.
He probably prescribed trazadone because it's an effective sleep aid and he didn't want you to get hooked on something like ambien. As an anti-depressant, trazadone is bad. But it's great for sleep!

Trazodone is hard to predict.
Most people will indeed sleep real well on it.
Some won't. I had disturbed sleep on it.
Some people feel lousy the next day. Some don't feel any after effects the next day.
I felt like absolute crap the next day, much more depressed.
A friend of mine was depressed for months. He was also taking traz for insomnia. Surprise, when his doctor moved and his traz ran out, his depression disappeared too.
For some people Traz is a wonderful sleep med. For others not. As with everything, mileage varies. It wouldn't be in wide use, as it is, as a sleep prescription if it wasn;t performing fairly well overall.
I personally favor other sleep meds. Lunesta for example. Or ultra low dose Remeron (1mg to 7.5mg) which feels much more potent for sleep than the higher normal doses. I despise when doctors prescribe antipsychotics to nonschizophrenic patients for purposes of sleep, but they do it like it was candy.

Monica,
First off, Yay! for your response to parnate! That's wonderful news.
Trazedone made me feel awful the next morning. I had to quit. Yes, I do take lunesta as needed. I feel better the morning after than ambien or sonata--but that's me. Others do report good results w/ remeron as well.
