I'm beginning to see that forums such as this one may be giving the incorrect impression on the ratio or proportion of negative to positive feedback on medications.
There is a much greater tendency of people that have had negative side effects to use the internet as a forum to report these results or to even rant and rave. People who have had positive results don't tend to take the time to report them on forums.
People generally come to this forum because they have had med failures and are looking for info. So you have a lot of treatment resistant people reporting their failures. Than you might have the same people who tend to rant and rave over and over. This does influence people.
I'm not saying that these sides don't exist but I am saying that more than likely you will get the wrong impression as to a ratio of good to bad experiences. Just keep that in mind when forming an opinion about a drug.
More than likely most people who achieve remission will more than likely leave. People don't tend to hang around a forum on mental disease once they feel better.
There is some good info that can be found out here and some very knowledgeable people here that are very helpful. But you also need to be a strong willed person in terms of not letting people who may have an agenda keep you from making the correct decision.

Well said--I learn tons here; my pdoc is impressed and says I'm well informed. I just take what I can use. Otherwise I can get quite anxious.
I checked out a couple of other forums--wow! They were unmoderated. The fighting was unbelievable and the negativity. I last two hours on one. :)

Thanks for posting that.
The fact some are doing very well gets lost.... because the success stories usually don't stick around and post with any regularity.
A friend of mine's line about researching ANYTHING, health related in particular, on the 'net and using forums and communities is something I believe:
"There are no happy stories to be found just scary dark ones..."
The slant will always be to the negative because there is more of a human need to give voice to the negative than to positive.
I believe the trueness of the postings of failures and it saddens me. I also myself KNOW the nonposting of successes still makes them true as well and that makes me feel good.

>wow, that means that he (or she) is very well informed too.. otherwise, if one speaks about something a pdoc doesn't know, it's like a natural law they'll be like "yeah yeah go play elsewhere and let ME take care of the real business.. so let me take the latest Journal of Psychopharmacology issue I just read *blow dust off* right, here are the new treatment guidelines for... 1989. looks like people are quite into these new S-S-R-Is.. sounds very promising"
;)
one could make something like a disclaimer informing newcomers on how to (not) read and understand this forum, remind 'em of the negative-positive ratio etc...

Now that you mention it, the introduction to babble is a little hip and flip. A better intro would help.
