I have been reading quite a bit about how lactam antibiotics are starting to show benefits for OCD patients due to their glutamate dampening properties. Has anyone tried antibiotics for OCD and have seen benefits? I am wondering if it safe to continuously take antibiotics for life if it does come to be that these antibiotics are good for OCD? Also, I am thinking about trying NAC for my OCD again but had difficulty breathing on it last time I tried. I noticed a University of Virginia study that came out saying that some studies showed asphyxia in rats. Has anyone had breathing problems on NAC or have any recommendations how to take it? Perhaps I started too quickly and should have titrated longer or maybe the brand (Source Naturals) didn't agree with me? I was so disappointed but I definitely was not imagining the side effect! Many thanks for your thoughts,
Joseph

I just stopped doxy as I didn't realize the serious side effects they can cause was always under the impression they just worked. Not sure what lactam is but will look. Phillipa

I don't think it wise to take a penacillin derivative long term with active signs of infections or they or you could become immune to antibiotics. Just my thoughts. Phillipa

Thanks Phillipa I totally agree. Here is an interesting article that I found that discusses the antibiotics briefly. Have you tried NAC yet as I remember you were on Luvox for a time?

I totally sympathize Phillipa as I have tried to go down on my zoloft but can't. Have you tried inositol? It has been great for me although not the be all end all. My rumination has plummeted since being on it.
