Withdrawing from Anafranil

Posted by sk85 on April 22, 2011, at 13:19:02

My great OCD success with Anafranil has come to an abrupt ending. I had reached 85mg/day but felt increasingly "out of breath", I checked my BP and pulse and they were 150/95 and pulse 110 (!). And I'm only 25. This is not the first time that a noradrenergic med gives me tachycardia (I seem to be very sensitive to that).
So I've started withdrawing and at the same time restarting mirtazapine (which doesn't give me rapid heart beating). However there seems to be very little info on the net of clomipramine's withdrawal symptoms and their severity. Aside the formal symptoms lists. I'd like to hear from real people how was it like? Should I expect something severe (e.g. something similar to a Effexor withdrawal) or not? I've dropped from 85 to 35 without much problems, although I've gotten the impression the trouble should start when going from 10 to 0, as at 10 mg clomipramine still occupies around 90% serotonin reuptake pumps.

As no one replied I'm gonna self-report.
Withdrawing from 85 to 10 mg was in fact piece of cake, no major withdrawal symptoms, perhaps slightly lowered mood. The trouble started from going 10 to 0. I started getting the brain-zaps, however I have experienced SSRI brain-zaps before and clomipramine's feel different, it's more like a mix of dizziness and feeling of falling when standing up and moving, sitting down is ok. Anyway the zaps aren't too bad with this one and seem to be subsiding. The worst symptoms have been the severe mood swings (going from really low to very elated and then to very irritable) and the fatigue which is really bad and doesn't seem to go away so easily. I've decied to do the last stretch of withdrawal by switching to fluoxetine which has a longer half-life than clomipramine.
