Luvox or Abilify Making Me Tired?

Posted by MadBull on May 24, 2011, at 9:57:55

I'm taking 200 mg Luvox (100mg AM/100mg PM) and 5mg Abilify AM. I'm incredibly tired all day. What do you think is doing it?

I took that amount of luvox at one time with benzos and wasn't tired gave me energy. Maybe the abilify? What are your symptoms? And welcome to babble. Phillipa

Thanks! I feel like I need a nap--all day. Like I took a benzo of something. Otherwise, I feel good.

How long did you say you'd been on this combo maybe give a bit of time. If feeling better and good what a great plus. Phillipa

When I took abilify I felt tired all the time. Sort of like the sleep I was getting was not helping. I couldn't function at work and lost my job. When I take zyprexa, I sleep and feel well rested all day.

I had the same response to Zyprexa...slept great. I'm going to try and take the Abilify at night again and see what happens. Thanks.

I take 50mg of Pristiq daily. It doesn't help much, but I'm better off with it than without it. Per my pdoc's instruction I started taking Abilify today, in a sample dose of 2 mg.

I'm totally wiped. I feel exhausted and can hardly keep my eyes open. A nap at this point is probably unavoidable.

This effect is the opposite of what my pdoc suggested. He said that Abilify would be "enervating". Instead I seem to be getting sedated.

On the other hand, my first dose was this morning. Could it be affecting me this rapidly, or could this exhaustion be something else (perhaps even a placebo effect)?

Thanks for your time,
Reggie BoStar

I feel it could definitely affect you this fast as 12.5mg once of serquel knocked me out in an hour. So no more luvox? Phillipa

Hi Phillipa,
Nice to hear from you again. I don't think I ever took Luvox, though with all the meds I've been reporting here over the years, it's entirely possible. There are many I just don't remember.

Today I'm wiped even worse than yesterday. However I didn't take the Abilify, so hopefully the effects will begin reversing soon.

I have one of those blood-pressure cuffs (md calibrated it for me in his office) and thought I'd better check things out given how I was feeling. Seems my heart is slow to react whenever I exert myself today. It takes much longer to come up to speed when I do any bending or lifting.

When this happens I've been measuring about 85/60, pulse 90+. Eventually it gets up to about 110/70 but it takes far too long to be comfortable.

This is an effect I noticed when I first started taking SSRIs, though this time it's a lot more extreme. In the case of the SSRs, it just took me longer to get "second wind" when I was exercising. Now it takes me a lot longer to stop "seeing stars" if I do any bending or lifting.

It's frightening. I'm keeping an eye on it.

Reggie

PS: the weather here (NH) is gorgeous today. It helps a lot. I'm doing light work with my deck plants. Calms my nerves somewhat.

Reggie that's strange SSRI's lower you B/P raise your pulse as a way of compensating for low BP helps to raise it. Must be some type of paradoxical reaction. It is what you might expect from an Maoi? Phillipa glad you weather was good and got out some.

I should have added that I also take Lisinopril for high blood pressure. It's a very small dose: 2.5 mg. Normally it keeps my blood pressure in the 110/70 range. Without it the diastolic goes to 100.

So it could be that this combo of meds is also augmenting the Lisinopril.
