Hi,
In a recent post, Blueberry wrote:
"Lemon balm, valerian, passionflower, skullcap....a combo of any 2 or 3 of these is far better than any benzo."
Does anyone else share this opinion?
I take 0.5 mg of ativan once per day (for the last 10 years), and wonder if I should try one of the above herb combos instead.
thanks
Bob

Yes, I share that opinion, certainly for benzo naive people.
Once you are dependent it may not be easy to switch.
Benzos are stronger and more direct, and cause more troubles with dependence.

I feel naive is the word as took valerian at one time and nothing. I also take magnesium not an herb but doesn't relax me. As a matter of fact after 41 years of low dose benzos they don't either nor do the SSRI's SNRI's. Seems metabolism has changed since menopause. No idea if there is an answer. Phillipa

Well, you're on a pretty low dose of Ativan, so it might well be that a herbal anxilytic would work for you, however, if you're getting the releif you need, and you arnt creeping the dose up (which you obviously arnt) why mess with what works?

I think you're on a pretty low dose of a clean benzodiazapine. I don't really see what advantages the herb would offer, other than being "natural".
