Hello, Can someone please explain how Deplin is considered safe when supposedly one 7.5 tablet is equivalent to taking something like 66 folic acid tablets? I used deplin some years ago with partial success, however this time around I am having this strange side effect of burning and numbness in my feet. I am scared that maybe the deplin is affecting my nerves. Is this possible? How much research has been done on this?

I'm under the impression that Deplin is now being used at doses of l5mg. As to safety there is a poster Susan Whelan who you might wish to google who works with the company and was on here explaining Deplin. Phillipa

Folate is generaly considered non toxic, it is water soluable and quickly excreted if your body doesnt need it.

"...supposedly one 7.5 tablet is equivalent to taking something like 66 folic acid tablets....."
It's a little more complicated than that. For someone with the genetic deficiencies that Deplin targets you would need ~66 folic acid tablets to equal the effect of taking one 7.5mg Deplin. For someone without the genetic deficiencies it is more like 7.5mg Deplin == 1 folic acid tablet.
Does that make sense? You are basically taking a shortcut in your metabolism so you *don't* have to take a particularly high dose of folic acid. (Note...my numbers are just for an example, I don't know the exact equivalencies but the general idea is correct)
I take deplin, but I might need to drop it as my insurance doesn't cover it and I am not sure if it is doing $100 /month worth of good.
This is the end of the thread.
