gabapentin and ibuprofen

Posted by B2chica on October 10, 2011, at 8:04:24

ive been taking about 900mg of gabapentin daily but i hurt my back yesterday and have been taking more to help with severe pain up to 1800mg.
now i'm thinking i should be taking some ibuprofen to help with back.
can i mix the two? how much ibuprofen can i take?
my friend said when he hurt his foot his wife gave him 800mg ibuprofen and he felt No more pain.
but that seems high? plus with my gaba i dont want any trouble.

what you all think?

B2chica if the pain is that bad shouldn't you see a doc or get an x-ray? I wouldn't want to advise not knowing whats wrong with your back. Phillipa

its muscular.
its been flaring up off and on this last year. partly due to my weight shifts, my new exercise routine and also because of picking up a squirming 1-2 year old :)
(which is what im sure did it this time) love her to pieces but when she has a tantrum in my arms or lunges to get down it KILLs my back.
its lower/mid back.

i was going to take an aleve but i think there are contraindications with NSAID's ???
anyway. i'm going to take one motrin just to see if it helps.
i'll maybe call pharmacist?

B2c, the pharmacist is a good idea.

But I recall dimly it just being aleve and the NSAIDs in aleve's category. There are so many.

Like maybe motrin is o.k. But check.

It would, or something like it, be good for inflammation.

Yes, lifting the squirming child can be back wrenching. It goes against all the doc's advice.....

You can take upto 600mg of ibuprofen (3 of the OTC tablets) 4 times a day for a few days to help relieve strong pain.......take with half a glass of milk to protect your stomach.

B2chica first you are one the strongest women I know. I don't know how you manage. I really don't. Do you have a heating pad? Moist heat is good for backpain. Do you have any existing back problems. For example just found out that I have lumbas scoleosis. Never knew that before. By now I"m sure you have contacted someone. So what did you find out? Is your husband helping you? The terrible twos no wonder you are having a hard time. Love Phillipa

thanks for the compliment. i'm afraid i'm not very good at taking compliments. i would definately disagree with you...but thank you.

i have a heating pad but was told that if its muscular that too much heat will aggrivate the inflamation.
i sort of have existing back trouble, since this last pregnancy. i gained SO much weight my body wasn't used to that. then lately when i've lost all the weight and then a little more. my body has to adjust. but mostly too from the weight and holding squiggly babies. i ALWAYS seem to lift them wrong, back not arms/legs for strength.

i've joined a health club and go most mornings to exercise a bit. i've been gentle the last couple days but making sure to have extra time with stretches and hot tub. that plus the ibuprofen seems to really help. But it gets wrenched again when i lift baby.
I mean even when i'm sitting in a chair and she desperately wants to sit on my lap, i lift her and it kills. but i mean what am i to do, look at my little baby in her sad little eyes and say "no, i cant lift you, no lap today"? no i can't so i grimice and bare it.
but just do it gently with no jerky motion. and to lift her up that i literally can not do from the ground so i have her climb on the couch or chair and i lift her from there. she doesnt mind that at all. and putting her down i kind of slide her down my leg.

is DH helping, no. he has a friend that flew in from out of state and hes been staying with us. so the kiddos parts on me. but it normally is anyway. andi dont mind. i love his friend very much and hes a good influence on my DH and my children. in fact he's been playing more with my kids than DH. he's been playing a states game with my oldest and he played outside with them (and 3 other neighborhood kids) last night! when i was in making dinner (normally the kids would have to be stuck inside with me while i do it) it was WONDERFUL to see my kids have so much fun!

ya my youngest JUST turned 2 so we'll see how it goes. the 3's was worse for my oldest. but i have a feeling 2 AND 3 will be tough with this one! LOL!

ok. gonna take some ibuprofen and get to work.
thanks
b2c.
