Not yet. It had an extension on the patent for some reason or another and isn't due for generic until 2015. However, I think they reached a settlement with specified generic manufacturers for sometime in 2012. I recently spoke to the nurse at my sleep doctor's office who said that the generic won't be significantly cheaper than Provigil.
She also said that insurance companies are getting pretty picky about paying for Provigil.
I'm really looking forward to the day a reasonably priced generic will be released.

In Canada, it is available as a generic; my Rx says "Apo-Modafinil", APO being one of the principal generic companies here. It costs me about $.90 / 100 mg tab (plus dispensing fee), but Canadian prices are usually substantially less than US.
Another option is Adrafinil, marketed in Europe but not in N.A. as far as I know. It is a precursor to Modafinil & some people prefer it as it has a slower onset. It's available on the web, usually cheaper than modafinil; in Canada, it's not scheduled at all, and I had a delivery checked & passed OK by customs. I don't know about U.S. & state laws. But I have had bad experiences with relying too much on web purchases; they can go missing for a number of reasons, leaving you high and dry & possibly out substantial $$.
This is the end of the thread.
